Hello Readers!

A community is usually a social group of people united under a common belief system. In most cases, a community is formed because of a unifying thread that keeps people together. In Web3, the community is not just a pillar, but its very foundation. The existence of a decentralized system rests on a great and thriving community.

Managing a traditional community takes a lot of hard work. Similarly, managing a Web3 community is no easy feat. If there was a mission statement to ideal management of a Web3 community, it would be: to create a nurturing, fertile, and safe environment for everyone. A place where newbies can learn the laws of the land quickly and even the established ones do not abuse power. The community should empower the participant to add value and create a sense of belonging. Read on to get an idea of managing a Web3 community.

Community Participation is a key feature of Web3

How do you force a large number of people to come together? By giving them group tasks, of course!

Imagine: You join a Web3 community and once you go through the basic rules of induction, you are asked to draw a one-minute logo of your project. You spend a minute and draw a logo (good or bad depending on your artistic skills) and press send. It then lands upon the community poster along with the other logos people have drawn. A piece of your work connects with the community instantly. Doesn’t that feel great?

Web3 Community Principles?

  1. Engagement
  2. Feedback
  3. Honesty

Community Ownership is the strength of Web3. A thriving community creates a sustainable network of people who can add value. This set of people who contribute increases the usefulness, robustness, and resilience of the Web3 community.

Without Engagement, a community would eventually die out. As mentioned before, ease of interaction along with deliberate and planned events (a discord event for starters) will help to grow a Web3 community

Having a dedicated time during which each member can share ideas about the Community is a great way to incorporate member feedback. The best way to get the maximum number of people to give feedback is to make the process of collecting feedback really simple. A Poll of the top n ideas could be organized where everyone could vote.

Honesty and Transparency reinforce the belief of members within a Web3 Community. It is easy to set up a channel for constant communication where changes are passed down to everyone. A message on the Homepage along with updates being sent to all members is seen as a sign of honest communication.

Solid Introductions

A Notion Page where Introductions from people who have recently joined the community can be a great idea. This is an invitation for collaboration.

In Web3, the boundary between the creators, owners, and users is blurred. When the community as a whole takes up all three aspects of creating, owning, and using something, its value shoots up both internally and for the world immediately outside of the Web3 Community.

Structuring a Web3 Community or a DAO is super important. There could be instances where only a set of people are involved in the decision-making process. Structuring the community using demarcated roles is crucial to maintaining order in the decentralized chaos.

Web3 is a game and the community managers ensure the members are playing the game correctly. What’s correct and what’s not? We figure it out as the game goes ahead.

To conclude, here is a quote that articulates the thought process behind an ideally managed Web3 Community.

“In a perfect Friendship, often so great and so firmly based that each member of the circle feels, in his secret heart, humbled before the rest. Sometimes he wonders what he is doing there among his betters. He is lucky beyond desert to be in such company. Especially when the whole group is together; each bringing out all that is best, wisest, or funniest in all the others.” -C.S Lewis
